How to Compare Auto insurance quotes and optional coverage?
Knowing how to shop is an art form. I have seen housewives shop all around town walking miles just to save a few bucks on the everyday groceries. Men and women like that find ways to save and therefore invest in more productive ways the money they have. This kind of attitude is commendable. Unfortunately people will spend all kinds of time to save a few bucks and won’t even think of understanding a little about Auto Insurance which could save them hundreds of dollars on their first year and enough to buy a nice second hand car after only a few years.
There are many steps that must be taken to guarantee a good deal on your car insurance. This article will cover two of this steps; comparing different car insurance quotes and the wise use of optional coverage.
Comparison is one of the most effective ways to understand something and to appreciate it’s true nature and value. Let’s illustrate this, imagine you are told that a car is worth 100,000 cordobas. Is that expensive or cheap? Well depends how much a cordoba is you might say. If I tell you the Cordoba is the national currency in Nicaragua you might start guessing the Cordoba is not worth that much. However I then tell you that you can buy a loaf of bread for 10 cordobas. You then might think, well in the States a loaf of bread is around 1$, so the car is worth 10,000 dollars approximately. However that would mask the fact that cars hold value amazingly well, much better than in the States, very often the same model is much more expensive in Nicaragua than the States and even more so than Europe. So as you can see value and price are all relative to the type of economy you have and the price of other items.
Something very similar occurs with car insurance. You can’t be sure you have a good deal until you have checked with othe insurance companies. We always advice clients to at least contact five car insurance companies to make sure the quote they are getting is fair.
An important point when comparing auto insurance is to make sure you are comparing like with like. To do this it is good to get a base line with which to compare them. A good start is to get a price for the “basic”, barely legal, car insurance. Once you get the price on this base line you can start adding optional coverage.
This will serve two purposes, it will provide a base line to compare car insurances and you will see the real price of optional coverage helping you to decide which coverage is really important.
